What is causing my leg pain?

By: Novoviva webmaster

I am experiencing very bad leg pain all down the leg, and can't seen to get any relief from analgesia. What would be the matter? and can it be fixed?

There are very many different causes of leg pain To name some: 1) Muscle fatigue or strain from overuse, too much exercise, or holding a muscle in the same position for a long time - 2) Dehydration or low amounts of potassium, sodium, calcium, or magnesium in the blood - 3) Medications such as: Diuretics, which can cause you to lose too much fluid or minerals - Statins, which lower cholesterol - 4) An injury can also cause leg pain from: A torn or overstretched muscle (strain) - Inflamed tendon (tendinitis) - Hairline crack in the bone (stress fracture). 5) Other common causes of leg pain include: Blood clot (deep vein thrombosis) - Atherosclerosis (plaque buildup) that blocks blood flow in the arteries (this type of pain, called claudication, is generally felt when exercising or walking and relieved by rest) - Inflammation of the leg joints by arthritis or gout - Nerve damage -- common in diabetics, smokers, and alcoholics (symptoms include numbness, tingling, or a sensation of pins-and-needles) - Infection of the bone (osteomyelitis) or skin and soft tissue (cellulitis) - Varicose veins.

So you can see the causes are many, and as we do not know your age, weight, lifestyle, or what has occurred to cause this pain you are experiencing, you would be best advised to consult your own physician with your symptoms, and have them investigated. Only when there is a diagnosis can the appropriate treatment be commenced. The treatment will of course vary depending on the cause of the pain.
